Guided Access & A Simple How To

This is probably something that you already know how to do but I have shared this information with several parents who did not know so just in case….here it goes:

I am an IPhone mom, which means I don’t freak out if my child plays with my IPhone. *GASP* It may mean I have an extra 5 minutes at the grocery store before the screaming starts or simply that I can have one more sip of my coffee before we need to rush out of Starbucks. If you are not an IPhone mom, good for you but maybe move it along because this particular blog post probably won’t interest you~

One of things I normally put on for Little J is a little movie he can watch on my phone. However, Little J works my phone better than I do and normally will click right out of the movie screen and start messing around in my email or facetime (if you are my friend, you probably have been face dialed by Little J- sorry!) My Aunt Louise (AKA the Apple Brand Wiz) is often giving me little tidbits about my IPhone that I never knew existed. One of the best things she ever shared with me was how to turn on Guided Access. These few steps ensure that your LO stays on the screen you set up and can not move about your phone willy nilly. This will also work for IPad as well, the steps are the same.

Step 1:

Go to your home screen and select the settings icon

Go to your homescreen and click settings. (Everyone stop freaking out about my unread emails!)

Step 5:

Move the top tab over to turn on Guided Access
Make sure you also move the bottom tab for the short cut. This way you can simply triple click whenever you want to lock or unlock guided access.

This will save you tons of time and tears from LO if they can stay focused on whatever age appropriate app or movie you are allowing them to watch on your IPhone or Ipad. This also comes in handy on longer road trips or on an airplane!

Hope this helped!
