Last week, I took a visit to a Pumpkin Patch to gather some pumpkins for a play date project. You can read all about how it went here. However, while I was there, I also purchased a larger pumpkin with plans to make it into a flower pot. My husband had made this suggestion a few weeks ago and at the time I thought he was crazy but I decided to give it a try.
Today, a wonderful friend brought me a beautiful bouquet of fall colored flowers as a thank you for watching her daughter for the morning. Completely unnecessary but I immediately thought of my Pumpkin Flower Pot! I had been waiting for the right time to sit down and tackle this project but continuously kept putting it off. I finally had the flowers so there was no excuse. Little J went down for a nap and I went to work. The absolute best part about this project was that from start to finish it took only 10 minutes! Why did I procrastinate? Easy Peasy!
Pumpkin Flower Pot
Along with the flowers and the pumpkin you will also need a knife, a marker, a small vase or cup to place inside the pumpkin, a bowl to place your pumpkin guts (gross) in as well as a scissor to trim the flowers.
Once your pumpkin is cleared out (to the best of your ability, no one will see inside) place your vase like object inside the pumpkin. I could not find a vase small enough so I ended up using a liquid measuring cup. Once the vase is in place, trim your flowers to fit and arrange them inside the pumpkin.
I brought this beautiful DIY masterpiece out onto my patio for the neighbors to stare at with jealously. Since there is a pumpkin loving critter out there I’m not exactly sure how long this will last but since it took only 10 minutes to create, I have no problem doing another one!
Give it a go! This was fun and I think it spruces up my fall decor outside. I think next time I will make the opening just a tad smaller, I had to really arrange these flowers in a way so that the liquid measuring cup wasn’t visible!!
Have you tried this?? Tell me, how did it go?
